How to choose a melamine colour for your space

Melamine comes in hundreds of decors: plain colours, wood grains, stone looks and textures. A few simple rules make the choice easier.

Look at the room first

• Small or dark rooms: light plain colours and light woods make the space feel larger
• Large rooms with good daylight: darker woods and deep colours add warmth
• Rooms with a busy floor or wall: choose a calmer plain colour for the furniture

Combine, do not repeat

Many projects use two decors: a wood grain with a plain colour. For example, wood for wall cabinets and plain for base cabinets, or the reverse.

Surface texture

The same colour can look different with different surfaces. Synchronised textures follow the wood grain and feel close to real wood. Plain smooth and gloss surfaces look more modern. Super matt hides reflections.

Practical points

• Very dark plain colours show dust and fingerprints more
• Wood decors hide small marks well in busy kitchens
• Check the edge band colour together with the board
